You're More Than Your DNA

You are so much more than your DNA. Your DNA is the genetic “script” for your life. But your environment is the director, the producer, the editor, and the actors who affect that script and eventually make your “play” come to life.

Your environment is the air you breathe, the water you drink, the food you eat, and the substances that you absorb. Your “play” is manipulated by the stresses you experience, the social contacts you hold dear, the sleep you allow yourself, and the physical activities in which you engage. The beliefs you embrace, the love you give, and the empathy you have for others all work to mold YOU. All elements of your environment make you who you really are. Make no mistake about it. You are more than your DNA.

Choices

To really be healthy, you have to make choices – choices in your environment. You have to control what you put into your body, what you avoid, and what you remove from your body that is toxic. Getting everything right can be a daunting task.

Some of us take the “easy” road and just pop pills to get healthy. That is not the answer.

Some of us do nothing and just let fate do its thing. That’s not the answer.

Some of us overdo it and go to extremes creating so much physical and emotional stresses in our life. That can’t be the answer.

In my opinion, the answers will come once you become proactive, delve into peer-reviewed research, and get educated about evidence-based actions you can take. Then, share this knowledge with all whom you love and cherish.

19 Action Steps

Here’s a long list of what you can do to be healthy and stay healthy. These action steps will modify your environment to affect your well-being. This is not an exhaustive list; it just includes some of the highlights that come to my mind. These are my 19 proactive action steps:

  1. Eat nutrient-dense, anti-inflammatory foods that are organic and not processed with chemicals of any type
  2. Understand the importance of a diverse and high-quality gut microbiome and strive to enhance it as required
  3. Avoid all products that can kill the healthy microbiome that exists in your body and on your body
  4. Drink healthy water that is filtered and has had contaminants and toxic substances completely removed
  5. Get out into nature and breathe fresh air
  6. Use air filters and purifiers in the home when necessary
  7. Thoroughly inspect your home for any chemicals and chemical residues in household cleaners; on surfaces of furniture, floors, and walls; and in pillows and bedding – remove the offenders
  8. Create an efficient exercise program that is not too much and not too little
  9. Avoid using “body products” that contain chemicals, nanoparticles, and toxic metals
  10. Make sure your dentist is using biocompatible materials in your mouth, or find a dentist who will
  11. Consider alternatives to chemical medicines obtained by prescription or over-the-counter – these include supplements that are not from real organic food sources
  12. Follow healthy hygiene habits to keep the outside and the inside of your body clean but NOT STERILE
  13. Learn about dirty ElectroMagnetic Fields (EMFs) and how they can destroy your DNA, mitochondria, and the healthy bacteria in your gut
  14. Obtain the restorative sleep your body requires, which is about 8 hours a night for most people
  15. Engage in social activities with those who share your interests
  16. Recognize emotional stresses in your life and learn techniques to mitigate the ones over which you have control
  17. Believe in something greater than yourself
  18. Share feelings of love
  19. Engage with people and empathize with their situations – you may bring more hope to them than you might imagine

Who’s Pulling the Strings?

Pulling StringsYou are!

I’m stepping outside of the box. Rather than posting about gum disease, its obvious & not-so-obvious causes, and its effective treatment, I’m going to write about who and what are influencing everything that goes on in your body.

Your body was built from a genetic blueprint. It is the written code that tells your body how to do its job. All the essentials that make up your blueprint are collectively contained in your personal and unique pool of about 20,000 genes. Amazingly, all these genes are contained in your DNA, which is located in the nucleus of every cell in your body. (There is one exception; mature red blood cells do not have a nucleus and therefore do not include your DNA within them.) Practically every cell in your body has the blueprint to make another YOU!

Can these genes be changed?

Science has experimented with cutting and correcting segments of genes. Who knows what the future will hold. However, for the most part, your genes cannot be altered today. But, these genes can be significantly influenced.

Although these genes make up the blueprint, a conductor actually directs them to do this or not to do that. The conductor is your environment, and this is where you pull the strings.

You see, if you manipulate your environment correctly, you could tell some good genes to flourish, and you could tell some not-so-good genes to cool it. When you tell genes to flourish, you actually are up regulating them, and when you tell some bad genes to stand down, you actually are down regulating them.

Research has shown that about 90% of how we function is directly related to our environment, and only 10% is directly related to our genetic code. So, with the proper knowledge and tools, we can up regulate the good genes 90% of the time, and we can down regulate the harmful genes 90% of the time.

So, how do we manipulate the environment?

Think about it. This is awesome power at your control. If you were able to control the four pillars of health, which I write about frequently, you would be manipulating your immediate environment and pulling all the strings. If you were manipulating your environment fittingly, you would enjoy a significantly healthier and fuller life.
