Bone broth has been called the miracle drink. It is loaded with healing nutrients – some of which you only can get from homemade bone broth. Here are a few of the benefits:

  • Helps heal and seal your gut, and promotes healthy digestion
  • Inhibits infection caused by cold and flu viruses
  • Fights inflammation
  • Promotes strong, healthy bones
  • Promotes healthy hair and nail growth

I used to make bone broth in a slow cooker. For beef bones, that could take at least 24-48 hours. But the Instant Pot pressure cooker is so much more efficient.

Ingredients:

  • Instant Pot
  • 2-3 lbs grass-fed/grass-finished beef marrow bones (I use the bones that are left over from my Beef Short Ribs and Osso Buco recipes)
  • 2 tbs apple cider vinegar (to help leach minerals from the bones)
  • Mineral water (ex: Gerolsteiner, Fiji, Evian)
  • Himalayan salt to taste when using the bone broth in a recipe

Preparation:

  1. Place the bones in the Instant Pot
  2. Add apple cider vinegar
  3. Add mineral water to 1/2 inch or so below the Max Mark of the Instant Pot
  4. Place cover on Instant Pot
  5. Press “Pressure Cooking” button on Instant Pot Duo and set timer for 4 hours (the maximum time); set “pressure” at high pressure
  6. I restart the process for another 4 hours to get more minerals out of the bones
  7. Let the pressure return to normal
  8. Remove the bones and pour into glass storage containers
  9. Salt to taste before using the bone broth
